Engagement rate isn't one formula, it depends on what you divide by: reach, followers, or views for Reels. Enter your numbers once below and see all three at the same time, or connect your account and ask Claude or ChatGPT to run it on your real data instead.
Most engagement rate calculators publish a single formula. In practice, Windsor customers pull engagement data through ChatGPT, Claude, and Copilot in three different shapes depending on what they're actually measuring, and each shape needs a different denominator:
| What you're measuring | Formula | Fields |
|---|---|---|
| Engagement per person who saw the post | Interactions ÷ Reach | media_engagement ÷ media_reach |
| Engagement per follower | Interactions ÷ Followers | total_interactions ÷ followers_count |
| Engagement per view, for Reels specifically | Reel interactions ÷ Views | media_reel_total_interactions ÷ media_views |
Reach-based and follower-based engagement rate can tell noticeably different stories on the same post, especially for accounts where reach regularly exceeds the follower count. Reels need their own formula because Instagram counts a Reel view differently from a feed impression.
The calculator above works from numbers you type in once. For an ongoing answer, connect Instagram to Windsor.ai and ask directly:
Per reach if you want to know how well a specific post performed against its own audience. Per followers if you’re benchmarking against other accounts or over time. Per views if you’re evaluating Reels specifically.
Likes, comments, saves, and shares added together. Windsor’s media_engagement and total_interactions fields already sum these for you.
Yes. Connect your Instagram account to Windsor.ai, then ask ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot to calculate the same three rates directly from your real data.
