Each row in the sheet is one video on one day. From our test export (5 to 10 October 2026, 940 rows, 261 videos with views):

Daily channel trend

Views by day: 1,293, 1,406, 2,072, 1,679, 1,537 and 1,133, a total of 9,120. Put Date (as an exact date) on Rows and the measures on Text to get the same table.

Which videos carry the channel

Our top video had 864 of the 9,120 views (9.5%). Sort the Video field by Views to see how much of your traffic depends on a few uploads.

Watch time and subscribers per video

Estimated minutes watched, likes and subscribers gained for each video, so you can compare videos by watch time per view, not views alone.

How YouTube data gets into Tableau, and what to check

Windsor.ai’s own setup screen for Tableau says it “currently does not support third-party live connectors” and recommends loading the data into Google Sheets or a database first. Tableau’s Google Sheets connector was retired in mid 2023 (Tableau’s documentation), so the sheet is opened with the Google Drive connector, which lists it as “Microsoft Excel (Google Drive)”.

The Google Sheets destination writes the query to the sheet daily, hourly, every 30 or 15 minutes, or on demand. The task’s Columns to Match setting (date by default) sets which rows a run replaces. YouTube Analytics reports two to three days behind, so a daily run is enough for most channels. For data over the sheet’s cell limit, send it to BigQuery, PostgreSQL or MySQL instead and use Tableau’s connector for that database.

How we tested: Matei Ioan Nicolae (SEO Director, Windsor.ai) connected the Windsor.ai YouTube channel on 12 October 2026, created a Google Sheets destination task for the last 7 days and opened the sheet in Tableau Public 2026.2 with the Google Drive connector. Tableau showed 940 rows and 9 fields, and the totals were 9,120 views, 3,111 minutes watched, 28 likes and 14 subscribers gained. The daily views matched the Windsor.ai API for the same days exactly.

Check watch time before you report it: adding up minutes from per-video rows gave 3,111, but the same days queried without the video field gave 3,481. For channel watch time, send a second query with date only (no video field) to its own tab and use that in Tableau.

How to connect YouTube to Tableau in Windsor.ai

You need:

A YouTube channel you own or manage. If it belongs to a Brand Account, pick the Brand Account when Google asks which account to use.
A Google account with a Google Sheet for the data (an empty one is fine)
Tableau Desktop or Tableau Public
A Windsor.ai account (free forever plan, no credit card)

Register and log in to Windsor.ai

Create a new Windsor.ai account or log in if you already have one.

Connect your YouTube channel and pick the fields

Choose YouTube and sign in with Google. If the channel belongs to a Brand Account, pick the Brand Account (shown with the channel name), not your personal account. In the preview, choose the date range and the fields, for example Date, Video, Views, Estimated Minutes Watched, Likes and Subscribers Gained.

Send the data to a Google Sheet

Under Data Destinations, choose Google Sheets and click Add Destination Task. Enter the tab name (for example Sheet1), click Select to pick the spreadsheet in Google’s file picker, set the schedule, click Test connection and Save. To fill the sheet straight away, run the task from Destinations Overview. Windsor.ai also adds a Queries tab to the sheet; leave it out of Tableau.

Open the sheet in Tableau

In Tableau, under Connect > To a Server, choose Google Drive and sign in with the Google account that owns the sheet. On Google’s consent screen, tick the box that gives Tableau access to your Google Drive files: without it, Tableau shows “Google Drive has rejected this request because of insufficient permissions”. Pick the sheet and drag the data tab (Sheet1) onto the canvas.

FAQs

Is there a direct YouTube connector for Tableau?

Not a live one. Tableau has no built-in YouTube Analytics connector, and Windsor.ai’s setup screen for Tableau says it “currently does not support third-party live connectors”. The working route is Windsor.ai to Google Sheets (or a database), then Tableau.

Why use the Google Drive connector and not Google Sheets?

Tableau retired its Google Sheets connector in mid 2023. Google Sheets files are opened with the Google Drive connector, which Tableau lists as “Microsoft Excel (Google Drive)” once connected.

Why does Tableau say Google Drive rejected the request because of insufficient permissions?

The Drive access box on Google’s consent screen wasn’t ticked. Sign out in Tableau’s Google Drive dialog, connect again and tick the box that lets Tableau see your Google Drive files. This is the error we hit in our own test.

Why are minutes watched lower than the channel total?

If the sheet has one row per video per day, adding up minutes gives the per-video total, which is lower than the channel total: 3,111 against 3,481 minutes for the same days in our test. Views matched exactly. For channel watch time, send a date-only query (no video field) to a separate tab.

How often does the data update?

The Google Sheets destination runs daily, hourly, every 30 or 15 minutes, or on demand. YouTube Analytics itself reports two to three days behind: on 12 October 2026 the latest day available was 10 October.

Does this work with Tableau Public?

Yes. We ran the test in Tableau Public 2026.2, which has the Google Drive connector under To a Server.

Can I report on YouTube Ads here?

No. This connector reads organic channel analytics. YouTube ad campaigns are reported through Google Ads; connect Google Ads to Windsor.ai and send it to another tab or sheet.
