Connect QuickBooks to Claude

Automatically sync your QuickBooks Online data to Claude using the Windsor.ai connector.

Intuit’s own Claude connector pulls reports and creates invoices inside QuickBooks, in the US. Windsor.ai gives Claude the general ledger lines, profit and loss, balance sheet and receivables behind those reports, in any region, and puts them next to Google Ads, GA4 and Meta Ads so you can see marketing spend against real revenue.

Forget CSVs. Stop copy/paste. Connect data in minutes. No code required.

Which one do I need?

All four methods below get QuickBooks Online data in front of Claude. They differ in how deep Claude can go, whether it can write back, where you can use them, and what else Claude can see alongside your books.

“Best for” leads so you can jump straight to the row that matches your situation.

Intuit’s QuickBooks connector Windsor.ai Report export QuickBooks API / custom MCP
Best for Standard reports, benchmarks and creating invoices from chat Transaction-level analysis, multi-year history, and books next to marketing data One question about a fixed period Bespoke workflows the others don’t cover
Depth Summary reports (P&L, cash flow, benchmarks) General ledger lines, P&L, balance sheet, invoices, bills, aged receivables Whatever the report contains Whatever you build
Write access Yes: invoices, estimates, payment links, transaction import Read-only No Yes, if you build it
Cross-channel analysis No Yes, 350+ sources Only what you upload Only if you build it
Where it works US customers only, per Intuit Any region Any Any
Setup effort Low (native, Intuit login) Low (no code) None, but repeated every report High (developer task)

The custom MCP route is last on purpose. It is the heaviest option, a developer task, so it belongs at the end as the fallback for cases the other three do not cover.

Method 1

Intuit's official QuickBooks connector for Claude

Intuit lists a QuickBooks connector in Claude’s directory and expanded it in July 2026 with invoicing and other actions. It covers QuickBooks Online on every plan, Intuit Enterprise Suite and Accountant Suite. Claude can pull profit and loss and cash flow reports, benchmark your business against industry peers, import transactions from a CSV, PDF or image, and create, update and send invoices, estimates and payment links. Full details in Intuit’s help article, updated August 2026.

Setup steps

1
Open Connectors in Claude

In Claude on the web or desktop, open Connectors from the left navigation and click Browse connectors.

2
Find QuickBooks and connect

Search for QuickBooks (Intuit), click Connect, and sign in with the Intuit account that owns the QuickBooks Online subscription.

3
Pick the company

Authorize the company file you want Claude to use. Destructive actions such as deleting an invoice ask for your confirmation first.

4
Turn it on in chat

In a conversation, enable QuickBooks under Search and tools and ask for a report, a benchmark or an invoice.

What it can do

  • Pull profit and loss and cash flow reports, and benchmark your numbers against industry peers
  • Create, update, send, duplicate and delete invoices and estimates, add customers and products, create payment links
  • Import transactions from CSV, PDF, image or pasted data into a QuickBooks account
  • Work without a QuickBooks login for basic P&L or cash flow summaries from data you paste in

What it can't do

  • Work outside the US, Intuit says the connector is available to US customers only for now
  • Go below the report level, reviewers on Reddit and LinkedIn note it returns summaries rather than transaction lines to drill into
  • See anything outside QuickBooks, no ad spend, no web analytics, no CRM
  • Cover QuickBooks Desktop, which Intuit's documentation does not mention

Example prompts

Show my profit and loss for last quarter and compare it with the same quarter last year.
How does my gross margin compare with businesses like mine?
Create an invoice for Acme Ltd for 40 hours of consulting at our standard rate and send it.
Method 2

Windsor.ai for transaction-level analysis and marketing ROI

Windsor.ai’s connector gives Claude the rows behind the reports. The most requested QuickBooks data through Claude is the general ledger line by line, then profit and loss, account balances, invoices, bills, the balance sheet and aged receivables, and teams pull a full year or two of history as often as the last 30 days. Among teams that query QuickBooks through Windsor’s Claude connector, 3 in 10 also query Google Ads in the same period and about 1 in 4 GA4 and Meta Ads, which is how marketing spend gets measured against booked revenue. The connector works in any region and is read-only.

Setup takes a few minutes

1
Connect QuickBooks to Windsor

Go to onboard.windsor.ai/app/quickbooks and authorize your QuickBooks Online company. Windsor pulls the general ledger, accounts, invoices, bills, purchases, customers, vendors and the standard reports.

2
Add the Windsor.ai connector to Claude

In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, search for Windsor and click Add. Sign in to your Windsor.ai account when prompted, and the connector appears in your Connectors list. You can also open the Windsor.ai listing in the Claude directory (https://claude.ai/directory/360c0c31-4bb6-42ca-8e50-5da0a100a68e) and click Connect.

3
Ask questions

Start a new chat and ask about cash, margins, receivables or expenses in plain language, for any period your QuickBooks history covers.

No code, API keys or custom pipelines required. Runs on Windsor MCP for Claude. Screenshots for each step are in the setup guide.

Connecting QuickBooks to Claude through Windsor.ai, step by step.

Skip exports and spreadsheet math, get clean, ready-to-use answers straight in Claude
Puts QuickBooks next to Google Ads, GA4 and Meta Ads so Claude can measure spend against booked revenue in one conversation
Reads general ledger lines, not only report totals, so Claude can explain a number down to the transaction
Read-only access to your books, so nothing changes in QuickBooks unless you do it

What it can do

  • Query general ledger lines, profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, accounts, invoices, bills, purchases, customers and vendors, across one or several QuickBooks companies
  • Pull a full year, two years or year to date in one question, as well as the last 30 days
  • Blend QuickBooks with Google Ads, GA4, Meta Ads, Google Search Console, Shopify and your CRM in the same conversation
  • Use it from any region, and with multiple companies for accountants and bookkeepers

What it can't do

  • Create invoices, record transactions or change anything in QuickBooks, the connector is read-only (see Method 1)
  • Cover QuickBooks Desktop, the connector reads QuickBooks Online

Example prompts

General ledger review

List general ledger lines for the last 30 days with generalledger__item__tx_date, generalledger__item__account_name, generalledger__item__txn_type, generalledger__item__memo, generalledger__item__debt_amt and generalledger__item__credit_amt. Flag duplicate amounts to the same vendor within 5 days and any uncategorized expense over 500.
Group general ledger lines for this year by generalledger__item__account_name and month. Which expense accounts are growing fastest?

Profit and loss

Show profitandloss__income, profitandloss__cogs, profitandloss__grossprofit, profitandloss__expenses and profitandloss__netincome by month for the last 12 months. Where did gross margin move, and which months ran a loss?
Compare year to date profitandloss__netincome with the same period last year and explain the difference by income and expense line.

Cash and balances

Show accounts__name, accounts__accounttype and accounts__currentbalance for all active bank and credit card accounts. Then compare average monthly expenses over the last 6 months with cash on hand and estimate runway in months.

Receivables and payables

List open invoices with invoices__customerref, invoices__docnumber, invoices__totalamt, invoices__balance and invoices__duedate, and show the agedreceivables buckets. Which customers are consistently late, and who should we chase first?
List bills due in the next 30 days with bills__vendorref, bills__totalamt, bills__balance and bills__duedate, and compare the total with current cash.

Cross-channel

Put Google Ads and Meta Ads spend by month next to profitandloss__income for the last 12 months. What is revenue per dollar of ad spend, and how has it moved?
Compare GA4 purchases and revenue with QuickBooks invoices__totalamt by month for this year. Where do the two disagree, and by how much?

Cross-channel questions to ask next

  • Revenue per dollar of Google Ads and Meta Ads spend, on booked revenue rather than platform-reported conversions
  • Whether GA4 revenue and QuickBooks invoices reconcile month by month
  • Which customers from your CRM pay late, and what that does to cash
  • Whether Shopify orders and QuickBooks income match after refunds and fees
Method 3

Report export from QuickBooks

The zero-setup route: run a report in QuickBooks Online, export it as Excel or CSV, and upload it into a Claude conversation. For a single question about a fixed period, this works on any Claude plan and in any region.

What it can do

  • One-off analysis with no account connection or new tools
  • Works on any Claude plan, including free
  • Good enough for a fixed-period question you will not repeat

What it can't do

  • Stay current, the export is a snapshot that goes stale the moment you download it
  • Avoid repeat work, every follow-up period means another export and upload
  • Combine the ledger, invoices, bills and reports in one file, each is a separate export
  • See other channels unless you export and upload each of them too

How: in QuickBooks Online, open Reports, run the report and date range you need, export to Excel or CSV, then drag the file into Claude and ask your question.

Method 4

QuickBooks API with a custom MCP server

If none of the above cover your workflow (an internal approval step, a report shape neither connector produces, a custom object), you can build your own MCP server against the QuickBooks Online API and expose it to Claude. Intuit also documents an MCP server for developers.

This is the heaviest route here: you handle the Intuit developer app, OAuth tokens, rate limits and API changes yourself rather than doing a no-code setup.

What it can do

  • Whatever you build, full flexibility over endpoints, objects and actions
  • Cover workflows that neither the official connector nor Windsor.ai support

What it can't do

  • Work without developer effort, there is no no-code path here
  • Avoid ongoing maintenance, tokens and API versions rotate

Reach for this only when Methods 1 to 3 do not cover your case. It carries build and maintenance cost that the other three do not.

Conclusions: which method wins for your use case

Your situation Recommended Why
“I want to explain a number down to the transactions behind it” Windsor.ai General ledger lines, invoices and bills, not only report totals
“I want marketing spend measured against revenue in the books” Windsor.ai Only method here that spans 350+ sources beyond QuickBooks
“I am outside the US” Windsor.ai Intuit’s connector is US only for now
“I want to create invoices and estimates from chat” Intuit’s connector Only no-code method here with write access
“I just want a P&L, cash flow or benchmark in chat” Intuit’s connector Native and built for those reports
“I have one quick question about last month’s numbers” Report export Fastest path for a true one-off, no account connection needed
“None of the above cover what I need, and I have dev resources” Custom MCP Full flexibility, at the cost of build and maintenance effort

FAQs

What are the main ways to connect QuickBooks to Claude?

Four: Intuit’s official QuickBooks connector in Claude’s directory (reports, benchmarks, invoicing, US only), Windsor.ai (no code, read-only, general ledger and report data next to 350+ other sources, any region), a report export for a one-off question, and a custom MCP server on the QuickBooks API for developers. The comparison above shows which fits your case.
