Analyzing your Microsoft Ads data tells you where the quiet inefficiencies are. Acting on it is where the time actually gets saved. Once Microsoft Ads is connected to Windsor.ai (see: How to Connect Microsoft Ads (Bing Ads) to ChatGPT, or the Claude version), Windsor’s write actions let ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot make real, live changes to your account, not just report on it.
Is this automatic, or only when I ask?
Worth being direct about this: write actions are prompt-triggered, not autonomous monitoring. Whichever assistant you use, it doesn’t watch your account in the background and pause a campaign the moment CPA spikes overnight, there’s no unattended monitoring running between conversations.
It runs the action you ask for, when you ask for it, in that conversation. If you want a regular check, ask for it explicitly (for example, at the start of each session) rather than assuming it’s being monitored continuously.
What you can do with your Microsoft Ads account
Microsoft Ads supports 5 write actions through Windsor, covering campaigns and ad groups. Here’s the full list:
| What you can ask for | Level | Reversible? |
|---|---|---|
| Enable a campaign | Campaign | Yes |
| Pause a campaign | Campaign | Yes |
| Set a campaign’s daily budget | Campaign | Yes |
| Enable an ad group | Ad group | Yes |
| Pause an ad group | Ad group | Yes |
For the exact parameters each action takes, see the full write actions reference, kept live and up to date from the API, or Microsoft Ads’ action list specifically at connectors.windsor.ai/bing/actions.
Microsoft Ads write actions don’t cover creating new campaigns or ad groups, editing keywords or ad copy, or setting bidding strategy. Only Google Ads has bidding-strategy write actions today; Microsoft Ads is status and daily budget control on what you’ve already built.
Turn keyword waste into a paused ad group
Which keywords have spent more than $50 in the last 30 days with zero
conversions? Show me spend, campaign, and ad group for each.
If an entire ad group's keywords are all in that list, pause that ad
group. Confirm with me first.
Pause what’s underperforming this week
Find every campaign with CPA above $60 and spend over $100 in the last
7 days. Show me the numbers first, then pause the ones I confirm.
⚠️ Confirm before you commit. Pausing a campaign or ad group, and changing a daily budget, take effect immediately. Your assistant always shows you the exact campaign or ad group and the before/after budget before running the change.
Shift daily budget toward your best campaign
Compare CPA across all active campaigns for the last 30 days.
Decrease the daily budget on my worst-performing campaign by 20%, and
add that amount to my best-performing one. Confirm the exact
before/after budget for both before applying it.
Re-enable a campaign once you’ve fixed the issue
I've updated the landing page for [campaign name]. Turn that campaign
back on, and set its daily budget back to $80.
Pause an ad group directly
Pause the ad group "Brand - Exact Match" while we update its landing
page. I'll ask you to turn it back on once it's ready.
Reference a campaign by name, not ID
Microsoft Ads is the one platform here where you don’t need the numeric campaign ID at all, the name works on its own.
Pause the campaign named "Brand - US". I don't have the campaign ID
handy, just go by the name.
FAQs
Does it monitor my campaigns and act automatically?
No, in any of the three. Write actions are prompt-triggered: your assistant acts when you ask it to, in that conversation. It doesn’t run in the background or act on its own without you asking.
Will it pause a campaign or change a budget without me approving it first?
No. Whichever assistant you’re using, it always confirms the exact campaign or ad group, and the exact budget amount, before running the change.
Do I need to write code or set up an MCP server myself?
No. Write actions work directly through Windsor’s native app or connector in ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot, the same connection you use for reading data.
Can it pause individual keywords, or only campaigns and ad groups?
Only campaigns and ad groups today, in any of the three. There’s no keyword-level pause action yet, so a wasteful keyword means pausing the ad group it belongs to, or removing it manually in Microsoft Advertising.
Are Windsor's write actions reversible?
Status changes (enable/pause) can be reversed anytime. Budget changes can be set back manually, your assistant shows you the before/after amount so reversing is a simple follow-up.
Is there any difference in what I can do between ChatGPT, Claude, and Copilot?
No. All three connect through the same free Windsor MCP server and get the same read and write capabilities for Microsoft Ads. The only difference is the one-time connection step, which follows each assistant’s own native app or connector flow.
