To connect Instagram to Gemini, authorize your Instagram Business or Creator account in Windsor.ai, then add Windsor.ai as a data store in Gemini Enterprise and authorize it once in the Gemini Enterprise web app. After that you ask about reach, Reels, saves and followers in plain language, and Gemini answers from your live Instagram data.

This guide covers Gemini Enterprise, the Google Cloud product for companies, where Windsor.ai is listed as a third-party connector. It is about your own account’s Insights. To analyze accounts you do not own, see how to connect Instagram Public Data to Gemini.

The same connection can also publish. Gemini can create an image post, a carousel, a Reel or a story, and reply to or hide comments, and it shows each change for you to confirm before it runs.

Connect Instagram to Windsor.ai on the free forever plan, no credit card: onboard.windsor.ai/app/instagram.

Before you start

  • An Instagram Business or Creator account. Windsor.ai reads it through Meta’s API, using the Facebook login that manages the account. Personal accounts have no Insights to read.
  • A Windsor.ai account. The free forever plan covers one data source and one account, with the last 30 days of history. To keep Instagram next to other sources such as Meta Ads or GA4, paid plans start at $19 a month (billed annually) for 3 sources, or $99 a month for 7. See Windsor.ai pricing.
  • Gemini Enterprise Standard, Plus, Frontline or Pay-as-you-go, set up in the Google Cloud console. The Business edition has its own setup and a smaller set of connectors.
  • A Google Cloud project that belongs to your organization (Google Workspace or Cloud Identity, not a personal Gmail account), with billing on, Gemini Enterprise activated, and the Discovery Engine Editor role for the person doing the setup.

Google bills Gemini Enterprise and the data store separately from your Windsor.ai plan.

Step 1: Connect Instagram to Windsor.ai

  1. Go to onboard.windsor.ai/app/instagram and log in or create an account.
  2. Click to connect Instagram and sign in with the Facebook account that manages your Instagram professional account.
  3. Select the Instagram accounts you want Gemini to read.

If you connected Instagram to Windsor.ai before comment access was added, reconnect it here. Otherwise comment actions return a permission error.

Step 2: Add Windsor.ai to Gemini Enterprise

Google calls the connection a data store. These are the main actions; the full Gemini Enterprise setup guide has every screen and error message.

  1. In the Google Cloud console, open Gemini Enterprise, click Data stores, then Create data store. Under Third-party data sources, find Windsor.ai and click Add data source.
  2. Under Entities to search, select Connectors. On the Actions step, select Execute Action if you want Gemini to post or manage comments. Reading data works without it.
  3. Under Multi-region, keep global unless you must keep data in the US or EU. The location cannot be changed later. Name the data store and, if the console asks, configure access control with Google Identity.
  4. Keep General pricing, click Create, and wait until the data store’s state changes from Creating to Active.
  5. Open your Gemini Enterprise app (or create one in the same location), click Connected data stores, then Add existing data stores, select the Windsor.ai data store and click Connect.
  6. Open the app’s web app URL. Click the puzzle piece icon below the Ask Gemini Enterprise box, click Authorize next to Windsor.ai, then Allow Access, and sign in to Windsor.ai. To let Gemini post, turn on Write actions in the Windsor.ai window (this applies to your user only), then click Finish and check that the Windsor.ai toggle is on.

The Windsor.ai authorization prompt in the Gemini Enterprise web app

If this is the first Gemini Enterprise app in the project, Google adds a 30-day Gemini Enterprise licence with it. The Windsor.ai data store is in public preview under Google’s Pre-GA terms.

Step 3: Ask your first question

Open the Gemini Enterprise web app and ask something you can check against the Instagram app:

Show my Instagram reach, views and accounts engaged for each of the last 14 days, and list the posts I published on the three best days.

If the totals look different from Instagram, check the date range first. Instagram’s app counts boosted and cross-posted engagement in post totals; the fields media_total_like_count and media_total_comments_count match those totals, while media_like_count and media_comments_count do not include them.

Instagram data Gemini can read

Area Fields (Windsor.ai field names) What they answer
Account, per day reach_1d, views, accounts_engaged, total_interactions, likes, comments, saves, shares, reposts, profile_links_taps How the account did on each day
Followers followers_count (today only), follower_count_1d, follows_and_unfollows Growth and churn
Reach split reach_followers, reach_non_followers, views_followers, views_non_followers Whether content reaches people who do not follow you
Posts media_type, media_product_type, media_caption, timestamp, media_permalink, media_reach, media_views, media_saved, media_shares, media_engagement Which posts and formats work
Post actions media_follows, media_profile_visits, media_profile_activity Which posts send people to the profile (not reported for Reels)
Reels media_reel_avg_watch_time, media_reel_total_watch_time, media_reel_skip_rate Hold and drop-off
Stories story_reach, story_views, story_replies, story_exits, story_taps_forward, story_taps_back Story completion
Audience audience_country_name, city, audience_gender_age_name with their follower counts Who follows you (lifetime totals)
Comments comment_text, comment_timestamp, comment_like_count, comment_reply_count What people say, and which comments need an answer

Instagram’s API sets four limits on this data.

  • Impressions are retired. Meta replaced impressions with views for Instagram. Ask for views.
  • New followers per day (follower_count_1d) are not reported for accounts under 100 followers and only cover the last 30 days.
  • Stories return insights only while the story is live, for 24 hours.
  • followers_count is today’s number with no history. For a trend, use follower_count_1d or follows_and_unfollows.

Prompts for Instagram in Gemini

Reels that hold attention

Compare my Reels from the last 30 days by average watch time and skip rate. Which ones kept people past the first 3 seconds, and what do their first lines of caption have in common?

Saves and shares by format

Group my posts from the last 60 days by media type (image, carousel, Reel) and show saves and shares per 1,000 reach for each. Which format earns the most saves?

Sixty days of posts, and the two months of weekly reach below, go beyond the 30-day history of the free forever plan and need a paid plan.

Reach outside your followers

For each week of the last two months, show reach from followers and reach from non-followers. Which posts drove the weeks with the highest non-follower share?

Posts that bring profile visits

List my image and carousel posts from last month by media_profile_visits and media_follows. Which topics bring people to the profile, and which get likes but no visits?

Comment triage

Show comments on my posts from the last 7 days that have no reply yet, newest first, with the post caption for each.

Monthly report

Write a one-page Instagram report for September: reach, views, interactions, follower change, the top 5 posts by saves, and three changes to try in October.

Post and reply from Gemini

With Execute Action enabled on the data store and Write actions turned on in Windsor.ai, Gemini can make these changes on a connected Business or Creator account:

  • Publish an image post, a carousel of 2 to 10 images, a video post (Instagram publishes single videos as Reels) or a story. Media must be at a public URL; images must be JPEG.
  • Comment on a post, reply to a comment, hide or unhide a comment, or delete a comment on your own posts.

Gemini shows each request and waits for you to confirm before it runs. For example:

Reply “Thank you, the full guide is linked in our bio” to the newest unanswered comment on my last Reel.

The full list, by platform, is on the Windsor.ai write actions page.

Analyze Instagram next to other sources

With more than one source connected in Windsor.ai, Gemini can answer across them in one question:

  • Meta Ads: compare organic reach with paid reach for the same weeks, and check whether boosted posts were already your best organic posts.
  • GA4: match Instagram reach and profile link taps with sessions and key events from Instagram in GA4.
  • Instagram Public Data: set your posting frequency and engagement next to two or three competitors.
  • Facebook Page: compare the same campaign on both Meta surfaces.

Troubleshooting

Your Instagram account is missing after you sign in with Facebook

Through a Facebook login, Meta’s API reaches only Instagram professional accounts that are connected to a Facebook Page (see Meta’s Instagram Platform overview). If the account is already Business or Creator, connect it to a Page your Facebook profile can access, then connect Instagram in Windsor.ai again.

Publishing or replying fails with a missing-permission error

The connection does not carry the permission that action needs. Reconnect at onboard.windsor.ai/app/instagram and approve every permission Meta asks for; Step 1 covers accounts connected before comment access was added. If the Facebook Page linked to the account requires Page Publishing Authorization, Meta blocks publishing until that authorization is complete (Meta’s content publishing requirements).

One post fails while others publish

Each post type has file limits. Images must be JPEG, up to 8 MB, with an aspect ratio between 4:5 and 1.91:1. Videos must be MP4 or MOV, and a story video must run 3 to 60 seconds. The file URL must open without a login at the moment Gemini publishes.

Comments come back without the commenter’s username

Windsor.ai returns comment_username only when the Facebook profile you connected with can moderate comments on the Facebook Page linked to the Instagram account. Ask a Page admin to give that profile access that includes comment moderation (the MODERATE task in Meta’s list of Page tasks).

Gemini says it found no Instagram data

Right after you connect the data store to your app, Gemini Enterprise can take about 10 minutes to return Windsor.ai data. Wait, refresh the web app, and make sure the data store shows Active and the Windsor.ai toggle under the puzzle piece icon is on.

Next steps

Connect Instagram at onboard.windsor.ai/app/instagram, add the Windsor.ai data store in Gemini Enterprise with the Gemini Enterprise setup guide, and start with the 14-day check in Step 3. For more questions, browse the Windsor.ai prompt library. If your team uses Claude, the same data works there too: see how to connect Instagram to Claude. FAQs

Can Gemini connect to Instagram?

Yes, through a connector. Gemini Enterprise has no Instagram connector of its own; Windsor.ai is listed as a third-party data store in Gemini Enterprise and reads your Instagram Insights through Meta’s API.
